Chinese Government Scholarship (CSC): Agency Numbers & Application Guide

The agency numbers of 304 Chinese universities that host the Chinese Government Scholarship (CSC), plus the required documents and step-by-step procedure for applying.

Please verify before applying: always confirm your target university's CSC status and agency number on the official online application portal (studyinchina.csc.edu.cn) before submitting — the code you enter there must match the university you are applying to.

How to apply, step by step

1Check the application window (usually opens in November and closes in April of the following year) and confirm your target university accepts the Chinese Government Scholarship.
2Contact your target university / a potential supervisor to secure an invitation or acceptance letter if required; many programmes need one before you submit.
3Create an account and complete the CSC online application at studyinchina.csc.edu.cn, entering your chosen university's agency number as the designated agency.
4Complete the host university's own online application form, if it requires one, and upload the same documents.
5Submit all required documents before the deadline, online through the CSC portal and, where the university asks, a hard copy to the International Students Office.
6Wait for the university / CSC review and result. Shortlisted applicants may be contacted for an interview.

Copy of passport (valid for the full study period)
Highest degree certificate (notarized copy) and transcripts
Notarized English translation of certificates and transcripts if not in English/Chinese
Study plan or research proposal
Two recommendation letters from professors or associate professors
Foreigner Physical Examination Form (for study periods of six months or more)
Language proficiency certificate (HSK for Chinese-taught, IELTS/TOEFL for English-taught) if held
Acceptance letter from a host university / pre-admission letter if available
