Scholarships and funding at McGill University

McGill is unusual among Canadian research universities because it funds a meaningful share of its international undergraduates. Its entrance scholarship system includes awards open to students entering from abroad, some merit based and some need based, and international applicants are considered for these as part of the admission process rather than through a separate round, so the application you already have to write is the one that matters.

Graduate funding at McGill follows the Quebec and federal pattern. Research-based master's and doctoral students are supported through department and supervisor funding, often built on the federal tri-council grants from NSERC, SSHRC and CIHR, with Quebec's provincial research funds adding a further layer for students at Quebec universities. Master's students in professional programs mostly self-fund, with a smaller set of faculty awards available.

Because McGill's own awards and the external ones its students use are different application tracks, read the provider line on each card before you plan. The official website link below leads to the McGill office that runs the award, and that page carries the current deadline, which for entrance scholarships is normally the admission deadline itself.
