Scholarships and funding at Stanford University

Stanford does not have one central scholarship pot, which surprises applicants who expect a single university scheme. Instead, each graduate school funds its own students, and most doctoral offers arrive with a funding package attached: a stipend plus tuition, usually for the length of the program. Because of that, the practical question at graduate level is not how to find a Stanford scholarship but whether the program you are admitted to funds its students, which most PhD programs here do.

The visible exception is Knight-Hennessy Scholars, which funds graduate study in any Stanford school for a cohort selected partly on leadership, and it is designed to combine with the funding your department already offers rather than replace it. At undergraduate level the model is different again. Stanford meets the full demonstrated need of every admitted undergraduate, including international students, so the aid conversation happens after admission, through the financial aid office, not through a separate scholarship application.

The awards listed below reflect that mix: university-wide graduate schemes, school-level funding, and a smaller set of named awards with their own rules. When you open a card, the provider line tells you which office runs it, and the official website button on the card is the right place to check current rounds and eligibility.
