Scholarships and funding at University of Wisconsin, Madison

UW-Madison is a large research university, and its funding divides sharply by level. Graduate students are the well-funded half: doctoral programs across the sciences, engineering and social sciences support their students through research and teaching assistantships and internal fellowships, and most funded offers arrive with the admission decision. The campus-wide and department scholarships below sit on top of that base.

International undergraduates meet a much thinner picture. UW-Madison offers some merit scholarships to students from abroad, but its largest aid programs, including the Great People Scholarships and the state-based support in the Wisconsin Scholarship Hub, are built for Wisconsin and domestic students, so international applicants should plan around university merit awards and outside funding rather than institutional need-based aid.

That makes the eligibility line on each card the most important field on this page. UW-Madison publishes current rounds through its scholarship hub, and each official link leads to the office that runs the award, where you confirm whether international students can apply before you invest time in the application.
